The 1970's era neighborhoods in Tempe have a feature unique to that time. Behind every row of homes there's a service alley for city trash pick up and access to utility hubs. In the back yard we have a gate to the alley behind our block fence.

After  a few months in Tempe I can say without question this neighborhood is better suited to us than Gilbert. There's been a lifestyle change. My daily commute went from 35 to 10 miles round trip. I work in Tempe. Many of my favorite places are in Tempe. We're finding new places we like, many within modest bike riding distance.

You can say what you want about Arizona politics, the Mormons, snowbirds, Mexicans, snakes, and the hot weather ...... but you can't say this is not a cool place. I've been to enough states to know it doesn't suck here..... even if it sometimes does.

Tempe is a college town but given the fact Arizona State University is the largest school in the nation it does not have a quaint college town feel. The downtown Mill Avenue district at ASU is fantastic. I'm glad to be living closer to the action.
